Hakushu glass armor

New Life as a Max Level Archmage

Voidglass Armor is a supernatural defensive material worn by the Red Tithe and defined by its resistance to magic and skills. Rather than merely making its wearer harder to injure, it interferes with the very methods Vivi normally uses to understand and control the world, making the armor a crucial factor in their confrontation and a sign that the conflict reaches beyond ordinary local craft or enchantment.

Properties and Appearance

Vivi detects the armor not through a clear magical signature but through its absence. As her passive perception passes over the Red Tithe and each piece of his equipment, it produces a diffuse confusion that resembles the sensation caused by his carved black-glass dagger. The effect feels like overwhelming normality: because Vivi is accustomed to her skills providing information about objects from this world, an object that yields no insight disorients her. The armor therefore conceals itself through resistance rather than invisibility, appearing unnervingly mundane to abilities designed to reveal its nature.

The armor is closely associated with violet-and-black glass weaponry. The Red Tithe handles a blade of that material while wearing armor that is described as near-immune to all skills and spells. The combination suggests that the armor is not an isolated defensive curiosity but part of a broader equipment set built around the same anomalous substance. Its material quality is sufficiently unusual that Vivi considers whether it may not belong to the world at all, perhaps originating beyond the dimensional fracture or possessing an extra-dimensional nature.

Role in the Red Tithe's Combat Strategy

The Red Tithe’s behavior shows how completely he relies on Voidglass Armor. He does not attempt a careful ambush when confronting Vivi; instead, he acts with the confidence of someone who believes his weapon and armor make him effectively invulnerable. The equipment changes the tactical terms of the fight. Vivi cannot simply inspect it, disable it with a familiar skill, or assume that a direct spell will affect it as ordinary armor would.

The armor also sustains the Red Tithe’s psychological advantage. He initially believes that Vivi is barely keeping pace with him, and his confidence survives long enough for him to reveal that he has another maneuver available. He later treats the violet-and-black blade as a monumental artifact and abandons his earlier restraint, implying that the equipment is valuable not only because of its defensive function but because it represents a rare and exceptional power. His near-magic-immune armor is thus both protection and provocation: it encourages him to take risks while concealing the limits of what it can actually withstand.

Vivi's Investigation and Countermeasure

Vivi does not end the battle immediately because defeating the Red Tithe would not necessarily resolve the larger danger. She suspects that the dagger is not unique and recognizes that other pieces of equipment may carry the same resistance. The armor consequently becomes an investigative problem. She must discover how to counteract the material rather than merely overpower the individual wearing it; otherwise, another wielder or another artifact could reproduce the threat.

Her suspicion turns toward the dimensional fracture. If Voidglass is alien or extra-dimensional, its immunity may result from being outside the ordinary magical rules of the world. That possibility also raises a more disturbing question about provenance: Vivi wonders how Duke Caldimore acquired such an object. The armor therefore connects the Red Tithe’s immediate attack to a wider network of dimensional and political danger, implicating the resources available to Duke Caldimore rather than leaving the artifact as an assassin’s unexplained possession.

Limits and Narrative Significance

Voidglass Armor is formidable but not absolute. Vivi eventually uses the grimoire’s “[Carve the Firmament]” spell to hack at the fundamental fabric surrounding the Red Tithe. She then tears the bleeding voidstuff away and seals what she can before the destructive magic collapses the entirety of Meridian. The result establishes that some magic exists beyond the protection of the Red Tithe’s alien armor. The armor can resist ordinary skills and spells, but it cannot make its wearer untouchable when Vivi attacks the surrounding structure of reality itself.

This limit gives the object its decisive narrative function. Voidglass Armor first appears to embody an unknowable material power that frustrates perception, undermines conventional magic, and produces the terror of an opponent whose defenses cannot be read. It later becomes the measure against which Vivi’s deeper command of magic is tested. The armor transforms a conventional duel into a confrontation between the world’s established rules and an anomalous substance that may have come from outside them; its defeat does not make it ordinary, but proves that even its resistance has a boundary.
